This sword has no maker mark but is a Emil Voos art deco pattern. The hilt is aluminum base and shows some mild wear. A couple strands of the grip wire have come loose with time and could be repaired but I like to leave things in original condition. Beautiful bright blade. The scabbard is straight without any dents. Overall and fantastic historically important sword!
Historical and fantastic artifact! This sword was originally owned by Lt. Gen Erwin Rauch Commander of the German 343rd Infantry Division. Rauch was surrounded and captured by Troop A of the 17th Calvary Reconniassance Squadron on 18 Sept 1944. Being surrounded and held up in a pillbox Rauch ultimately surrendered himself, his troops and his sword to the now General Jones who brought the sword home as a war trophy! This sword was sold in 2012 by Wittmann Militaria. This sword comes with photo of Gen Rauch, Wittman COA, Rauch’s award list, Hand written note from Gen Jones, typed signed note from Gen Jones. Historical information of the German 343rd Infantry as well as the 17th Cavalry that Gen Jones commanded.
Included is the sword, framed picture and complete dossier.
A fantastic and well documented surrender sword!
I have had this one in my personal collection for a few years.
